yes we're selfish. thats why we cry. hence its not odd.
QED.my questions:

1. is it easy for us to imagine eternity? that is beginninglessness (lol) and endlessness.
was it easy for us to imagine the vastness of earth at one point? was it easy to get over our awe and device means through which we have made this vast land a small place? anything not easy can be made easy by becoming familiar with it.

2. does a soul really exist? :S or is it just an invention coz we're afraid of mortality?
does gravity really exist? or is it something we came up with because we are afraid of falling off the face of earth?

3. does a centipede know that its a centipede with a unique identity etc..?
oh i dont know, let me ask one- oh wait! thats right. humans have yet to establish means through which we can communicate effectively with other species. im sorry. but im afraid ill have to put ur question on hold.
but u know. on that same note. ive always found it absurd that humans can assume that the 'lesser animals' have no thoughts and feelings. i suppose that the majority of the assumption is goverened by observing such beings' actions. but still. i mean, has anyone actually talked to one?? the same way we assume that they dont have such thoughts, it is also possible to assume that they do.

4. why do we make false promises and go through elaborate courtship rituals when we know that its simply sex we want? is romance an idealistic concept of human love which we can now dispense of?

*raised eyebrow*
you are obviously male.
if humans only wanted sex, then there would be no marriages. the concept of human love, as u put it, would never be born. with the craving of sex, we also crave companionship, affection etc. i think that for each person 'love' has a unique definition. because as unique individuals we crave different things. and that craving is the 'love' that we want.

can we dispose of this? hmm..for us females, it is now possible i think.
i mean, when we want companionship , we have our girlfriends.
when we want affection, we have our pets
when we want money, we have our jobs
when we want sexual gratification-ahhh.. thus steps in the vibrator
and when we want kids, we have the sperm bank.
*shrug*

but for you men? i think u'll need us ladies until they invent a fake womb. or until u men can find it in urselves to raise kids all by yourselves.

5. if there is so much space and so much matter, is it possible and that we're not alone? how high is the probablity for ET existence? very high? very low?

the goldfish who lives in the pond considers the entire pond its universe. it knows not the outside world. and whatever it is outside simply is too big to fit into its vision. thereby it concludes that its 'nothing' or rather a 'vaccum of space' . but we all know that plenty more exists outside the fish pond.

so yea. its very possible that we are the goldfish. that the probabily for ET existance is very high. or is something we tell ourselves to make us feel more significant in this huge universe??

6. if the eye is so perfect why cant we see germs or distant galaxies? if our digestion is so perfect why do we produce waste? if our bodies are so perfect why do we succumb to illness? or could it be that we're NOT perfect, but inefficient just like new computer models that keep slowly improving their performances every year?

perfection changes form with every observer. and if u ask me, i honestly dont think perfection exists. i mean if there was such thing as perfection our lives would be so dull no? there would be no challenges to overcome. no planes to build, no microscopes to invent.

and the 'waste' u think we produce from our nether reigions is not waste at all. it may seem smelly and ugly and useless to us, but in the grand scheme of things, ull find that there are microbes that are very fond of the 'waste'.
also, without illness there would be no appreciation of good health.

everything has an opposite. ying and yang, if u believe in it. balance.

7. why do we conform to useless social customs like wearing clothes, (regardless of the weather and environmental hazards?)

can u imagine the number of traffic accidents that would occur if we didnt wear clothes?
one bugger would be so busy ogling at bouncing breasts that he would crash into another poor soul who was mesmerised with the sight of a glorious six pack.

8. why do people create works of art? what is beauty? does it have a standard? who/what determines it?

i dont know why other people do it. i do it because it helps me.
beauty is in the eye of the beholder *grin*
it doesnt have a standard, nor does it have rules.
you decide what beauty is to you. and to hell with what other ppl think.

9. what happens after death?

we rot and become food for saprophytes :P

10. what if the religion you believe is false and you're faced with someone else when you die?

oh well, tough luck then eh?

i could go on all day
so could i :)
you've made my day. i honestly enjoyed ur questions. its rare that one gets thought provoking comments. hope u throw more at me. cheers.

When an apple has ripened and falls, why does it fall? Because of its attraction to the earth, because its stalk withers, because it is dried by the sun, because it grows heavier, because the wind shakes it, or because the boy standing below wants to eat it?Nothing is the cause. All this is only the coincidence of conditions in which all vital organic and elemental events occur. And the botanist who finds that the apple falls because the cellular tissue decays and so forth is equally right with the child who stands under the tree and says the apple fell because he wanted to eat it and prayed for it." - War and Peace (Tolstoy)

agree with his predeternimism? or can we rise above fatalism to control our course of action? and for the last time, does free will exist or not?! yes or no please! :D

O.O
gadzookians.
free will exists! yes! yes!
oh and i think i agree with the war and peace dude.
it all depends on perspective i think.
