Hooliganism refers to unruly and destructive behavior.

Were there hooligans around last night?

    Hmm.....
National pride comes out only during football matches these days..

Tell me something about the Maldives - other than the football - that you're proud of. (Beaches don't count!)

and you thought football is gay?? =P

It's mostly: "Monkey see, monkey do."
You don't really have to have any national pride or love for football (and though I have neither, I admit: I was giddy!)

Any excuse is enough to get us to run out into the streets in red jerseys and revel. More so if nearly everyone else is doing it.

I always knew that you are a fake.

Anonymous, just because a person had a change-of-heart it doesn't mean that they're "fakes", in the sense you mean.

It seems like a rather small thing to base such a claim on. It's just uncool and uncalled for.

wow... that's a lot of comments!

anyways, i must concur with the first anon. post. there's nothing 'hooliganistic' ( =P ) about just getting excited over a game.
    so chill, girl! ^_^

there wasnt anything destructive about the behaviour yes, but u gotta admit everyone went wild. myself included . and atleast i am honest hmm?

and control freak is right. i honestly dont know much about football, its rules or whatever.
that night for me was simply the spirit of things. i have never seen the entire population come together like that. there was no hatred, strangers were friends.. it was magical and i am quite proud to be a part of it.

but i gotta admit this extended celebration is giving me a headache.

kool.lucky you..u had the chance to enjoy it.as others have noted its more about enjoying than about football. more like hithaanee season. the circumcised child is often forgotten while the adults go on partying day and night.a good thing actually.life is short, and memories of these kinda once in a life time moments will stay with us forever.

and sports is something we all unite in usually. there are hardcore newradiant fans among drug dealers, gang criminals, haabees, politicians (both drp and mdp).whats more.. when it comes to football, aura issue for men is watered down...made an exception (with religious reasoning) sometimes.even adhaalath sheikhs wear shorts sometimes.

no matter what we try to become, we are all humans and we all love merry making.

yeah i wasn't that passionate about football or patriotism till that glorious goal

And i thought the whole hooliganism was absolutely beautiful and well needed. Such a bloody stress relief screaming around in a lorry, chest bumping and flag clapping with strangers in the rain. Siigh.

Hilarious seeing normally composed people let loose like that.

I had fun. Besides, it was such a well-deserved victory.
